Formed in 1980 in Detroit and originally known for their unique brand of
'original classic rock.' After several years of playing clubs in the Greater Detroit area, self-released '6x4=1992' in the summer of 1992. The CD
features six songs from the band's formative years. After periodic musical activity thru the late-80's and early-90's, Illusion rebounded in 1997 with renewed enthusiasm. 'Memphis After Dark' (Legacy Media Group 2001) was recorded live onstage and includes three original Illusion compositions, as well as three favorite covers. 'Mysteries & Secrets Revealed!' (Legacy Media Group, 2002) was the group's first proper full-length CD and included Illusion's newest original material.

In September, 2004, Illusion began the process of recording "Sleight of Hand," their second full-length CD. The new material demonstrates the band's heavier side, and a more-diverse mix of instrumentation. "Sleight of Hand" (Legacy Media Group) was released in April, 2005. In conjunction with "Sleight of Hand," Illusion also released a CD Single, "Silent Valor." The promotional sampler disc includes three tracks from the "Sleight of Hand" sessions (including a cover of "Hello Hooray!," made popular by Alice Cooper), an unreleased instrumental, and "Empty" from the "Mysteries & Secrets Revealed!" CD. The disc also features extensive multimedia content including "Caravan to Midnight," a 12-minute behind-the-scenes video on the making of "Sleight of Hand." The "Silent Valor" CD Single was distributed free at Illusion's shows.

On September 30th, 2006, Illusion celebrated their 25th Anniversary with a show in Mt. Clemens. They used the occasion to debut some of the new songs from the CD that was in pre-production. Recording for their third CD finally began in May, 2008 at RKS Studios in Pontiac, Michigan. Work continued over the following 14 months in anticipation of an October, 2009 release. Turbulence and Tranquility features 13 new songs and a running time of over 55 minutes. In addition to the CD, Illusion will release a 12" LP to be called "Now Is The Nothing."  The LP will feature eight songs from the CD, and is the band's first vinyl release.
